In 1955, a man by the name of Matsui Seisakusho began to manufacture reels to export. By 1958, his company had grown so large that he established Daiwa Seiko, Inc. in Nakano, Tokyo. Appealing to a domestic marketplace, Seisakusho moved the head office and reel production factory to its current site by the early 1960s. A fully owned subsidiary of the company was opened in Los Angeles under the name of Daiwa Corporation in Los Angeles, California in 1966. For the next forty years, Daiwa Seiko, Inc. built their brand in countries like Taiwan, Australia, Germany, France, China and Scotland. Revolutionary in their ideas, they developed soft bait with biological decomposed materials called “Edim” in 2002. The company is one of the largest and influential tackle companies in the world today. Now based in Cerritos, California, the Daiwa Corporation sells tackle throughout the North, Central and South America. Our series of helpful guides will help you to choose the product of your dreams. Daiwa Fishing Reels
Unlike its competition, the Daiwa Corporation got a bit of a late start. With its first reel debuting in 1955, the small Culver City, California based operation grew by leaps and bounds and is now headquartered in Cerritos and distributes its tackle throughout the United States, Canada, South and Central America. From the moment it was founded, Daiwa has focused on being the best in the industry. Innovative features, technologically advanced designs and quality materials go into each product made by the company. Building a rock solid reputation took time but Daiwa most certainly remains a leader in fishing tackle today.
The Daiwa Corporation has grown in popularity over the past five decades. Starting out as a small company who eventually grew big enough to move its headquarters to Cerritos, California, Daiwa manufactures quality fishing tackle and sells it throughout North, South and Central America as well as Canada. The brainchild of Matsui Seisakusho, the company has subsidiaries in Scotland, France, Japan, Germany and Thailand. Revolutionary products like “Edim” or soft bait that uses biologically decomposed materials sets the company apart and gives it the type of reputation it so richly deserves.
Popular Daiwa Baitcasting Reels
Baitcasting reels have seen changes in construction over the past few decades. Early reels made use of brass or iron gears and casings and spools made of brass, German silver, or hard rubber. Today’s reels are made of stainless steel, aluminum or synthetic composite materials. Adjustable spool tension or centrifugal brakes make casting efficient by reducing backlash. Known as multiplier reels in Europe and conventional reels in the U.S., the geared line retrieved Daiwa Spinning Reel outclasses its predecessors with its improved design.
Daiwa Corporation has thought long and hard about how to approach the growing need for technologically sound baitcasting reels. By adding numerous features to their already revolutionary products, they give their customers something to talk about.
Team Daiwa Fuego has a lightweight Magnesium frame and sideplate as well as an exceptional palming shape. It performs well in freshwater conditions and is smooth and easy to control. Six stainless steel ball bearings and a massive, seven-disc drag system makes the reel one massive piece of machinery. Red in color with the company’s logo imprinted on the side, the Fuego is sleek, sophisticated and ready to go.
Team Daiwa Tierra makes bass fishing second nature. Crafted from some of the finest materials including its soft touch grips, ultra-smooth seven-disc wet drag with Daiwa’s exclusive fiber composite and stainless steel washers and Magforce-Z automatic anti-backlash system, the Tierra is precise, reliable and affordable.
Daiwa Exceler is an exceptional piece of equipment. Smooth and powerful while making use of some the best materials that money can buy, this baitcasting reel is generous with its eight ball bearings, swept hand and star drag design and Infinite Anti-Reverse. Casting and retrieving never felt better. Unmatched by its competition, the Exceler is a performer through and through.
Daiwa Spinning Reels
Spinning reels, also known as fixed spool reels, were introduced to North America at the latter part of the 19th Century. Great for anglers who liked to use artificial flies and other plastic lures that enabled them to catch salmon or trout, the spinning reel eliminated the problem that baitcasting reels had by reducing the amount of backlash felt when using the product.
Well-practiced fishermen can gracefully release the bail while grasping the line with a forefinger, snapping backward than abruptly casting forward while releasing the line at the same time. Due to its fragile design, the line can be a real problem on a spinning reel. Trapped underneath the spool or twisting with the lure attached, thick line is not recommended. Spinning reels tend to react better to limp, flexible fishing line.
The Daiwa Corporation is a class act when it comes to manufacturing spinning reels. In fact, some weigh in at 6.9 ounces which makes them the lightest of their kind.
Daiwa Steez is lightweight and stealthy. Not lacking the features offered by competitors, this spinning reel contains an “Air Metal” Magnesium body, side cover and rotor, 11 CRBB Super Corrosion Resistant Ball Bearings, a Tubular Stainless Air Bail and an Advanced Locomotive Levelwind. The Steez is washable and has a waterproof drag system. Its air-tight oscillation system is free from noise and keeps things running smoothly. Ounce for ounce, the Steez is a force to be reckoned with.
Daiwa goes out of its way to create a line of baitcasting reels that are strong, priced appropriately and comfortable.
